I have just finished the 2018 Interclub Bay Cruise as Rear Commodore and I felt the history of the cruise was well worth telling. It’s a fabulous week of family cruising, held during the first week of the Queensland September school holidays.
In 1976, the late John Hattrick, whilst commodore of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, initiated an annual bay cruise to promote safe family boating and goodwill amongst the boating fraternity. Now in its 42nd year, the Interclub Bay Cruise continues to offer boating enthusiasts from all walks of life an annual cruise of Moreton Bay and the Broadwater. The All-ages Event provides a warm and friendly environment to share a full week of cruising with like-minded boating enthusiasts.
The event is open to all types of boats, whether your interest lies in sail or power. The Interclub Bay Cruise is the culmination of efforts by eight affiliated boating clubs in the region and each club is represented on the Interclub Bay Cruise Committee by delegates. Boaties that are not members of an affiliated boating club are welcome to join the cruise.
Each day there is a range of organised activities for cruisers to enjoy and a gathering on shore each night with meals available to purchase from the venues. Cruisers can participate in as much or as little of the activities and events as they like with the focus being on enjoying the fun and friendliness of the boating community.
